Shooting Spree Leaves Six Dead in U.S. Iowa

(MENAFN) Six people were fatally shot Monday in a rapidly unfolding shooting spree across Muscatine, Iowa, before the suspected gunman turned the weapon on himself as police closed in, the Muscatine Police Department confirmed.

The killings — rooted in what investigators describe as a domestic-related dispute — unfolded across two residences and a business, with all victims believed to be family members of the deceased suspect, police said in a statement.

Authorities received the first reports of gunfire at approximately 12:12 p.m. local time (1712 GMT). Responding officers from the Muscatine Police Department arrived to find four victims already dead inside the same residence. The suspected shooter, identified as 52-year-old Ryan Willis McFarland of Muscatine, had fled the scene before officers arrived.

A subsequent manhunt led authorities to the Riverfront Trail near a pedestrian bridge, where McFarland fatally shot himself as officers confronted him.

The death toll climbed further as detectives, acting on information suggesting additional victims, expanded their search. Two more men were discovered dead from apparent gunshot wounds — one at a separate residence, the other at a nearby business.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Detectives continue to process multiple crime scenes and conduct interviews, police said.
